The purpose of the Business Systems Analyst is to provide both technical and functional knowledge of the Dynamics AX / F&O application to design and develop software solutions which will enhance the performance, efficiency and capability of the Fortnum & Mason business.

The Business Sytems Analyst partners with internal and external teams to understand and define both the as-is and to-be state across business processes and systems as per project and programme requirements.

This will involve working closely with key business sponsors and stakeholders to ensure requirements are captured, signed off and shared with development teams for review. The position plays a critical role in project and programme lifecycles. In addition to project work, a Business Analyst will also have the autonomy to identify existing inefficiencies in processes and systems outside of designated project and programme work. 


  • The Business Systems Analyst will partner with defined Business Units working closely with senior stakeholders and their teams to understand their IT-driven business demand and helping them align this to Business and IT strategies.
  • Capture, analyse, question and validate requirements, modelling the related current ‘as-is’ and future optimal state ‘to-be’ business processes.
  • Assist in the ongoing management and evolution of the Tiger Team pipeline and Delivery


  • Use modelling tools such as Visio, or in-application tools such as Dynamics 365 Task Recordings, to document ‘as-is’ and ‘to-be’ business process covering both functional and non-functional.
  • Use collaboration tools such as SharePoint Online, Office365 and Dynamics 365 to create, update and manage Demand and Delivery documentation and related artefacts.
  • Support the presentation of Projects at any Change Approval Process.
  • Drive, validate and document any options analysis or RFP including evaluation/trial of solutions both internal and external.
  • Responsible for evolving user stories/requirements through conversations with developers and the business Units
  • Responsible for the functional review of the product after each iteration
  • Become familiar with the products and applications compromising the assigned line of technology landscape

People & Collaboration

  • Maintain close partnering relationships with senior stakeholders within the defined Business Units ensuring that regular communication, updates and reviews are carried out.
  • Initiate and manage relationships with any third-party vendors through the Demand and Delivery lifecycle, acting as a conduit between them and internal roles.
  • Be responsible for any needed knowledge transfer to the relevant internal roles, both functional and technical, as defined in the relevant functional and design documentation during and in transition of Projects.
  • Arrange and support any post-implementation project reviews.
  • Collaborate with team members to create detailed functional and/or technical specifications

Previous Experience:

  • Proven experience of working as a Business Analyst, preferably within the retail or hospitality sectors
  • Experience in business analysis and business change; formal business analysis qualifications are preferred
  • Experience within technology projects and deliverables
  • Proven experience of working closely with and managing business stakeholders to transform business processes, drive efficiency and deliver robust and efficient solutions particularly where there are complex cross functional or multi-system dependencies
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the project management life cycle stages, and experience of working through the full lifecycle from concept through to post-implementation reviews
  • Experience in working in, and prioritising work of, multiple projects across multiple business function
  • Requirements definition and gathering / ability to translate business requirements to functional specifications
  • Ability to work independently, or within a team environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously
